First time Class tips:

First class: You'll be getting used to the heat, getting a sense for the postures and taking it all in. Bring at least a liter of water with you to your first class. If you do not bring water with you, we have water bottles, and filtered water for your class.

The room is hot - the heat allows you to twist, turn, and stretch in a safe environment. Remember yoga was developed in India; and in India, every room is hot. Your goal is to stay in the room for the whole 90 minutes.

You will sweat. You may need to take breaks, but that's okay. Enjoy the process, maintain a positive attitude, and you will feel great after class. Leaving your class feeling as light as a feather, refreshed, focused, maintaining your intentions, and enjoying your state of calmness no matter what is going on around you throughout your day. You will have that gift that you gave to yourself; that you deserve just by participating in a yoga class.

Hydrate yourself during the day: Drink plenty of water throughout the day leading up to your first class. Add a little more water than normal throughout your day. Stop drinking water as least two hours before your first class.

What to Eat: You will want plenty of fuel for your first yoga class; as a hot yoga class, can be challenging to your body. Eat enough during the day; and what you've eaten, is healthy and light. Just keep it simple, light, and healthy, and you will be fine and ready to go! Avoid eating two hours before class.

What to Wear: Try to avoid long pants. Dress light - yoga shorts - tank tops...light weight clothing for the ladies. Guys wear shorts or swim trunks. Dress like you're going on Spring break, but in good taste. You'll be amazed by your yoga wardrobe you'll accumulate, and the cool looking yoga clothes you can purchase becoming a regular practitioner.

What to Bring: For your first class it's recommended to bring at least a liter of water, large bath towel, and yoga mat. If you don't have a mat or towel, no worries, you can rent them for $1.00 apiece at the studio. If its your first class, please  arrive at least 10 minutes prior to class, to fill out a "short" waiver.

After class: Rehydrate with water and electrolytes.  Electrolytes can be found in coconut water; there are plenty of  options on the market that contain electroytes. Not sure...be sure to ask your teacher. Our staff is very friendly and always willing to help. For your convenience the studio is sitting on top of a mini-mart, so you can purchase water or coconut water after your class.

What to expect after your first class:
1) No expectations, no conditions, no judgments:
You might feel very tired after class.  This is absolutely normal, and a good sign that your body is cleansing.  Your energy levels should be restored to normal within several classes.  Just try the right way, work with the right intention, and you will get there.

2) You might find yourself feeling extremely energetic, and experience difficulty sleeping.  Don't worry--this is a good sign that the yoga is truly filling you up with energy.  You don't have insomnia. You just have more time to do the things you enjoy.

3) You may feel sore or stiff the day after your first class. Come back to class as soon as possible! Your body is waking up and coming alive and you want to keep the process going!

4) You may feel nauseous, dizzy, or have a headache after class. This could be a sign that you are dehydrated. Please drink lots of water before returning to class. Or it could be a sign that you were trying so hard that you weren't breathing normally. Please breathe normally during every posture. Breath is life!

5) You might experience some skin irritation. This too is normal. It means that the skin is releasing toxins. Showering directly after class will wash the toxins away. It will also help normalize your body temperature.

6) You might feel very hungry after class for a while, or you might lose your appetite completely. Both reactions are normal. If you are concerned about your weight, don't worry too much either way. Once you get into a regular practice pattern, your appetite, and your weight will normalize.

7) Allow yourself the time to improve:
Flexibility, Strength, and Coordination are the resulf of the practice. Every class should start with whatever you have at the moment, and you will improve little by little, piece by piece, one by one. Remember every class builds one of the top of the other.

8) Release your perfect images of yourself:
Maintain a positive attitude throughout your class no matter what happens. Take it easy during your first class, always focus on your breath, and have fun. With a regular practice you will find yourself feeling and looking leaner and younger.

9) Enjoy the process of improvement:
No matter how tough the class becomes, please remember you always have a choice to enjoy the process. If it's getting physically or mentally difficult just relax, take a breath, observe yourself, and tell yourself "it's okay I'm stronger than I think."

10) Congratulations:
You are now taking responsibility to maintain and improve your mental and physcial health. The rest is up to you. You are starting a new lifetime journey enjoy it. p.s. Smile in class - it helps the body to relax!
